Our memberships are comprised of general contractors, specialty contractors of all types, suppliers, manufacturers, architects, engineers, and many other active construction-related businesses. We provide a professional means of communication between all of these essential segments of California’s construction industry.
In addition to the member services and benefits described in this brochure, most Builders Exchanges are also active in the governmental process. They make every effort to>ensure that the construction industry’s voice is heard when local issues arise that impact contractors and other construction businesses. In addition to involvement on the local city and county level , many of California’s Professional Builders Exchanges are active legislatively through GSBE - the Golden State Builders Exchanges.

- Weekly Projects Bulletin/Newspaper - An informative publication mailed or faxed to your office each week. Includes current information on project bidding, bid results, building permits, and legal information such as liens & notices of completion. The weekly publication also contains numerous articles of interest to those in the construction industry.
- Group Programs - Workers’ Compensation Insurance, Multiple Health Insurance Plans, Cellular Telephone and Long Distance Discount Programs, and similar savings programs are available at most Builders Exchanges throughout the state.
- Plans Room Facilities - Plans and specifications for hundreds of projects are available for viewing and use in each Builders Exchange Plan Room. Plan Room booths and tables are provided for your use, with plan copying services available overnight and ‘while you wait’.
- Overnight Checkout of Plans - In most Builders Exchanges, you may reserve plans to take with you overnight or over the weekend. Plan copies may also be ordered for pickup at your convenience.
- Membership Directory - Each Builders Exchange Membership Directory includes names, telephone and fax numbers, addresses, and other information about all BX members (including alphabetical and classified listings according to license classification or type of work specialty). Many Builders Exchanges also provide contractor referrals for homeowners and consumers seeking help with a home improvement project.
- Reference Library - Most Builders Exchanges have a reference library containing Building Codes, Sweet's Catalogs, Thomas Register, Contractors State License Board literature, and similar publications for your review and use.
- Legislative Information - Builders Exchanges regularly provide their members with current information on industry issues and concerns, including the most up-to-date reports on current pending laws and regulations that impact the construction industry.
- Social Functions - A wide variety of social functions are held by most Builders Exchanges throughout the year (including Golf Tournaments, Crab Feeds, Barbeques, Dinner Meetings, etc.) to let you meet other members and ‘network’ for future job opportunities.
